Build on informed decisions.
Understand the commitment before you make it.
A move may include a home, a business or an investment. Give each decision its own review, even when they are part of the same long-term plan.
Before buying property
Arrange independent legal and technical review. Discuss ownership records, charges, permitted use, building condition, ongoing costs and the contract terms. Understand the deposit, payment schedule, closing process and what happens if a condition is not met.
Consider renting first
A rental period can help you test an area before making a longer commitment. Review the lease, deposit, maintenance responsibilities, restrictions and exit terms.
Before starting a business
Define the activity, ownership, operating location and expected staffing. Ask qualified advisers about the legal structure, permitted activities, licenses, registrations, accounting and continuing obligations that apply.
Keep immigration and investment separate
A transaction should not be treated as a guarantee of residency. Confirm whether it meets the current conditions of a specific immigration route before relying on it for that purpose.
If you are arranging matters from abroad
Discuss which steps require your presence, how identity and signatures will be verified, and the scope of any power of attorney. Agree on secure document handling and payment instructions with the professionals involved.
Questions worth putting in writing
Who represents my interests? What is included in the engagement? Which checks remain outstanding? What fees and recurring costs apply? What can prevent completion? Who will explain the documents in a language I understand?
This overview is general information and is not individual legal, tax or investment advice.
